Fees and Charges

Fees

Students at Hughes Hughes Hall pay fees for tuition, catering and accommodation (including a damage deposit).

Fees and charges

The main University of Cambridge website has useful information about fees and living costs, and how to calculate them.

  • If you’re applying for undergraduate study, see the Undergraduate Finance pages.
  • If you’re applying for graduate study, see the Graduate Finance pages.
  • If you’re applying for a graduate course, a combined University Composition Fee covers both University and College fees. See your offer letter and the University’s fees page.
  • If you’re applying for a course in medicine (undergraduate or graduate), please see your offer letter.

The college’s admissions office has assembled a summary of funding guidance for students in different categories, these are available for download:

Accommodation and College Charges payments

  • In September/ October:  From arrival date to 31st December
  • Early January: 1st January to 31st March
  • Early April: 1st April – 30th June   (or your course end date if earlier)
  • June: Additional summer stay.  (no college charges)

Each invoice will include the number of days at the room rate shown in the table below, plus 1/3 of the annual College fixed charges also shown in the table above.  The first invoice will also include a caution deposit of £250 which will be returned after your final departure when the room has been checked to have been left in good order and any bedding packs ordered.

Kitchen Fixed Charge

Paid by all full-time students (with subsidies for all or part of the costs for students living away from the main College site), a contribution to the College’s everyday catering and dining facilities. This is part of supporting the College as a community of scholars, where the exchange of ideas and interactions often occur over meals, as well as maintaining an essential shared facility. The KFC reduces the unit cost of meals and so helps to foster a collegiate atmosphere.

Caution Money

Students in College accommodation are responsible for ensuring that they leave their bedrooms in a clean and tidy state at the end of each licence period. All personal possessions (including bedding and items from the kitchen and bathrooms) should be removed. Anything you do not wish to take with you should either be donated to a Charity Shop or disposed of correctly.

Should items be left behind by a student, or the rooms left in a dirty state, the College reserves the right to levy a charge against the Caution Money paid by each student (£250 in 2018-19). A list of these charges is available.
