Honorary Fellow

Professor Peter Mathieson assumed the office of Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in February 2018.

Prior to that, he was Director of Studies for Clinical Medicine at Christ’s College (Cambridge) and President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (2014-2018). He has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Bristol, Director of Research & Development for the North Bristol NHS Trust, President of the Renal Association, and Head of the University Department of Clinical Science at North Bristol.

He has been awarded an honorary life membership of the Australian & New Zealand Society of Nephrology and Honorary Fellowship of Hughes Hall (Cambridge) and the Hong Kong College of Physicians, and he is also Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Additionally, he is member of the League of European Research Universities Board, Board of the Scottish Funding Council, Chair of Higher Education and Further Education Strategy Group, and Chair of Confucius Institute Council, among others.

He holds an MBBS (First Class Hons) from the University of London and was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge.
