By-Fellow, Tutor

Maria joined Hughes Hall as College Nurse in 2016 following a diverse career in nursing including work in cancer care, accident & emergency and thirteen years as a pain specialist nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital. Maria now works as a freelance wellbeing advisor and is delighted to return to Hughes Hall as a tutor, providing pastoral support to students. Maria is passionate about promoting good mental wellbeing amongst the whole Hughes Hall community and is particularly interested in supporting disabled students and those experiencing mental health difficulties.

Maria has a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and was part of one of the first cohorts of students to undertake the accelerated graduate nursing course at the University of Sheffield, qualifying as a nurse in 2000. Maria later undertook a MSc in Healthcare studies, also at the University of Sheffield, researching the psychological and social issues around non-concordance, the term given to incorrect use of medication by patients.

When not at work Maria can be found ferrying her two daughters to their many activities, gardening and walking her one-eyed Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Buddy.
