Laurel Powers-Freeling currently chairs Uber UK, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp EMEA, Cambridge University Health Partners and the NHS National Joint Registry. She is also on the boards of Atom Bank and Majid Al Futtaim Ventures. During Laurel’s executive career, she served as Director of Corporate Strategy & Planning for the Prudential plc, Group CFO of Lloyd Abbey Life, Managing Director of Lloyds Bank’s Wealth Management Division, Executive Director of American Express Europe, and was on the board of Marks & Spencer plc, where she set up M&S Bank and was responsible for marksandspencer.com.
Laurel has been both a Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England and a Senior BOE Advisor, and served nine years as an NED of the Royal Academy of Music. Laurel started her career at McKinsey & Company as a management consultant after completing her education at Columbia University (AB) and MIT (MSc), followed by a stint at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker.
She and her husband have two daughters, one working at Google Cloud in Silicon Valley and the other at a London fintech. Laurel enjoys Baroque and Renaissance music, all things Italian, serious cooking and serious wine.
