Dr Fay Gilder is the Medical Director of the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Harlow and was appointed in November 2020. Prior to this, she was a consultant anaesthetist and clinical leader at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2003.  Her primary motivation is to enable an NHS organisational culture that places the highest quality care of patients and staff at the heart of all it does. She has held multiple leadership roles throughout her career with the earliest being a student senator at the University of London.

She is a highly experienced consultant anaesthetist with specialist expertise in anaesthesia for solid abdominal organ transplantation and vascular surgery. She is a recognised expert in the assessment and optimisation of the frail older person for surgery.

She is skilled in the improvement and transformation of services, a qualified executive coach and she is passionate about developing the leadership skills of others.

She is a committed and experienced educator with 20 years of training multidisciplinary NHS staff and medical students.

Outside of work Fay is a keen cyclist, vegetable gardener and cook.  She is a mother to two almost-grown up sons who continue to keep her on her toes.
