By-Fellow

Amit has been a Hughesian since 2000; first as a PhD student, then a Research Fellow, Associate and presently a By-Fellow at Hughes Hall. He is also an Affiliated Research Fellow at the CoMo Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge. His research interests include digital engineering, cross-domain digitalisation, smart infrastructure, technology commercialisation, negative emissions technologies, carbon abatement, low-emission energy conversion and nanomaterials.

He is also the CEO and Co-founder of CMCL, a digital engineering company that offers software and technical services to the chemicals, infrastructure, materials, automotive, and energy industries. For over a decade he has been responsible for business development and for establishing research partnerships with industry and academia worldwide. Amit is currently an Industrial Supervisor for two PhD studentships at the Department in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and industrial decarbonisation. He also leads a large European research project on Digital Open Marketplace Ecosystem (DOME 4.0), focusing on B2B data sharing.
As a CTES Fellow, he completed the Technology Enterprise and Commercialisation programme that was led by London Business School. A Chemical Engineer by profession; Amit graduated with a PhD degree from the University of Cambridge and gained his Master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pune, India.
