Hughes Hall Boat Club Fundraiser!
HHBC is excited to announce its upcoming ‘24-hour Ergathon’ fundraising event, taking place in College from the 15th to the 16th February 2023 (6pm-6pm).
HHBC prides itself on being an inclusive and accessible club, providing many students with the opportunity to partake in competitions and further establish our name on the river as fierce competitors and a college to watch out for. Anie Vasileva, Boat Club Communications Officer, told us about the event:
“We are the biggest student society at Hughes Hall and every year we welcome dozens of new rowers and coxes. This year, we have had a particularly strong uptake, especially on the women’s side, following several years of increasing success – in in 2019 and 2022 we entered two women’s boats into the Lent and May Bumps for the first time, and in 2019 W1 won blades (the most coveted prize!)”
“However, with this amazing growth, of course, comes a greater stretch on our resources which means it is no longer possible to provide all our hardworking teams with the training time or equipment they need to reach their full potential. Therefore, we are raising money to contribute towards the purchase of a NEW BOAT for the women’s side, allowing more teams to train and for those all-important seconds to be gained in races at the highest level. That’s where our ‘24-hour Ergathon’ comes in!”
The Boat Club are calling for their current members, alumni, Hughes Hall staff and students to join in the fun by signing up for a slot on their rowing machines: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15runCtajeJHqDeXeSjVIc2-M0etP_taTo39EanPabs8/edit?usp=sharing.
Please note, non-HHBC members will need to sign a waiver to participate. Slots are split up into 30 minutes each, but you are welcome to join us for more or less time if you would like!
If you are unable to join the Boat Club on the day but would like to support them, you can donate through their ‘JustGiving’ link: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hhbc – and by spreading the word about this event.
