Kaleidoscope: A Celebration of Hughes Hall

Date: 25 June 2022 | Time: 7pm – 11pm | Location: Hughes Hall, Wollaston Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB1 2EW | By invitation only.

As we say goodbye to our President, Anthony Freeling, now is the time to reflect on the past eight years at Hughes Hall and look towards the future.

During the past few years, whether in college or isolating at home, we have pulled together. While we have all faced our own personal challenges, we celebrate the extraordinary and multi-hued community that is Hughes Hall. Therefore, as we move forward into the next chapter, we want to thank each and every one of our staff and senior members for your dedication, kindness, and hard work with a celebration of Hughes Hall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Event programme

You can view the event programme here. You can open it on your desktop or on mobile.

The event programme contains all the details including a site map, security and first aid, timings, and more.

Arrival & check in

Entry is at the main gates of Hughes Hall on Wollaston Road. You must accompany your named plus one when you arrive at the event so security can check you both in. If you have not provided a name for your plus one, or your plus one has changed, please let us know their name at development@hughes.cam.ac.uk. Please make sure that your guest will be over the age of 18 on the day of the party as alcohol will be served.

Parking

We have limited parking under Fenners which will be offered on a first-come first-serve basis. Once this is full there may be some parking available in the multi-story carpark. Unfortunately, there will be no parking on the main drive of college except for blue badge holders.

What does garden party attire mean?

The fun of garden party attire is that it is open to your own style and interpretation, but generally just means ‘dressy casual’. We want everyone to feel comfortable in their clothes, but below are a few pointers.

  • No sports clothes, no jeans, no trainers.
  • Dresses can range from above the knee to maxi dresses, but the idea is to be somewhere in the middle of smart and casual. Jumpsuits are also welcome!
  • If you’re wearing a shirt you don’t have to stick to plain white – colours and patterns are welcome if you want to wear them.
  • Remember to wear shoes that are suitable for the outdoors and walking on grass – consider wedges or flats over stilettos.
  • We are hoping that it will be a beautiful summers day, and the sun won’t be setting until 10pm, but it might get a bit cooler as the evening goes on.

Do I need my wallet?

No, everything at this party is free but you might want to remember cash for your taxi ride home! We want the whole college community to enjoy the range of food vans, drinks, and activities we will have on the night.

What if I can no longer attend?

If you can no longer attend the party, please let Elle Ryan know as soon as possible so that we can give our caterers accurate numbers. Please note that if you cannot attend your plus one, unfortunately, will not be able to attend without you.

For any concerns or questions please contact Elle Ryan, Development Office (Alumni Relations & Events) as soon as possible.
