Welcome to Hughes Hall!

It gives us great pleasure to welcome Senior Members who have recently joined the College

Dr Vasiliki Mavridou joins Hughes Hall as Governing Body Fellow, having recently been awarded a Leverhulme/Isaac Newton Trust Early Career Fellowship. Dr Mavridou is a post-doctoral researcher at the Pharmacology Department, where she is working on the structure and function of ion channels, with a specific focus on neurotransmission and nociception.

Professor Bin-Bin Chen has joined Hughes Hall as a Visiting Fellow. Professor Chen is Head of the Department of Psychology at Fudan University, China. His research interests include various aspects of family relationships and the social and emotional development of children and adolescents in Chinese contexts.

Dr Miyuki Komachi is also a Visiting By-Fellow and is based at the Department of Psychiatry. She currently works on the RESHAPE and HOPE project, part of ChARm, and collaborates with Professor Tamsin Ford.

Dr Peter Mills is a By-Fellow of Hughes Hall and the Director of the PHG Foundation. Pete has written on subjects in biomedicine and biotechnology, including assisted reproductive technologies, genomics and genomic medicine, AI and data science, agricultural biotechnology and public engagement.

Dr Spencer Johnston is By-Fellow, Tutor, Deputy Admissions Tutor, and Director of Studies in Linguistics and Philosophy. Spencer was previously a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Philosophy where he conducted research in the history and philosophy of logic.

New Tutors appointed as By-Fellows

Joining the Hughes Hall community from elsewhere is Dr Sheheryar Banuri, a Behavioural Economist and Associate Professor of Economics at UEA, and Mr Kieron Devey, St Edmund’s College’s first Director of Education.

Familiar faces from within Hughes Hall include Mrs Claire Dickens, Senior Development Officer, and Dr Ellie Greer, Pathways Programme Manager who have both been appointed to strengthen and grow our tutorial team.

Dr Alastair Lockhart has been a Governing Body Fellow since he joined Hughes Hall as a Research Fellow in 2011. One of our longest serving tutors, he has now been appointed a Quondam Fellow of the College and has taken up a new appointment and fellowship at Churchill College, whilst continuing with a part-time governance review role at Hughes.

Dr Nicola Moretti, Research By-Fellow, recently became a Lecturer in Digital Construction Management at University College London. Dr Daoping Wang, Research By-Fellow and Hoffmann Fellow, moved to a role at King’s College London in August. In September, Dr Junwei Wang, Research By-Fellow, became a group leader at the Max Planck Institute in Potsdam, Germany. And, Dr Claire West, Governing Body Fellow and Research Fellow, is leaving Cambridge for the US in January 2024.
