Welcome to Hughes!

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our newest College researchers.

Our Research By-Fellows are an important addition to our Senior Membership and are both undertaking research in different aspects of law.

Ira Chadha-Sridhar works primarily in the fields of moral, political, and legal philosophy at the University of Cambridge. As Hughes Hall’s Hatton-WYNG Junior Research Fellow in Law, Medicine and Life Sciences, her work focusses on the ‘ethics of care’ and its intersection with doctrinal questions in medical law.

Dr Jellie Molino is an international legal expert on sustainable public procurement (SPP) and a member of the Philippine Bar specialising in environmental law and corporate compliance. She joins us as a Research By-Fellow in Private Law and Climate Change and works with the Hughes Hall Centre for Climate Engagement.

Welcome to Hughes Hall: Dr Jellie Molino (left) and Dr Ira Chadha-Sridhar.

Ira is the Hatton-WYNG Junior Research Fellow in Law, Medicine and Life Sciences at Hughes Hall.

Her research project focusses on the ‘ethics of care’ and its intersection with doctrinal questions in medical law. The ethics of care – a moral theory with feminist origins that emerged in the early 1980s – emphasises that caring actions are morally valuable.

Given that the actions performed in medical contexts are predominantly caring actions, care ethics emerges as a highly relevant philosophical framework for examining medical law. During the tenure of her Fellowship with Hughes Hall and the Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences at Cambridge, Ira is working on her monograph wherein she will develop a conceptual account of care – encompassing a descriptive theory of caring actions and a care-evaluation framework. This framework aims to make substantial contributions to ongoing discussions in doctrinal medical law and public health policy.

Ira holds a PhD and an LLM from the University of Cambridge, and a BA.LLB (Hons) from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in Kolkata, India.

Jellie is a member of the Philippine Bar specialising in administrative law, environmental law, and corporate compliance.

She is an international legal expert on sustainable public procurement (SPP) with experience working for international organisations, including UNOPS, UNEP, UNDP, World Bank, IFC, OECD, ITC-ILO and ADB.

She holds a PhD in Law and Institutions from the University of Turin in Italy (2022), an LL.M in Government Procurement and Environmental Law from The George Washington University Law School in the US (2017), and an Executive MBA from the Asian Institute of Management (2012), a JD from the University of Batangas (2005) and a BA Degree in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines-Diliman (1998).

She is currently a Post-Doctoral Research By-Fellow at the Hughes Hall Centre for Climate Change Engagement, with research focusing on private law, procurement, and climate change. She also serves as Procurement Advisor for UNOPS and International SPP Expert for the World Bank in Bangladesh.
