Hughesians put their best foot forward: from football final to rowing regatta

Last weekend was particularly busy for our students in the sporting world.

After winning this season’s league, Hughes Hall FC made it to the MCR cup final and went on to play Queens College on Sunday (1st May) on the pitches of Barton Road. The Hughes team went into extra time at 2-2, but were narrowly beaten by Queens 3-2. “It was a wonderful effort by the lads, but unfortunately it just didn’t quite happen for us on this occasion” said the team’s captain, Steve Campbell.

Although a bitter end to a great competition, the day was sweetened by the presentation of the MCR league trophy which celebrated the team’s achievements throughout the season.

Also this weekend, MCR President Peta Blundell along with her fellow members of the Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club (CUWBC) took to the water again, this time at the British University and College Sport (BUCS) Regatta on Sunday. The team of four, who all raced in the Lightweight Boat Race earlier this year, won the Lightweight Coxless Four and crossed the finish line in great form, seen in the photo below taken by Chris Down.
