Governing Body Fellow

Sonia is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education. Her research focuses on education inequality through the life course, looking at the socio-economic factors which shape children and young people’s access to, and outcomes from, education. She runs FairLab, the research lab looking at fair access and equitable participation in higher education and how earlier educational experiences affect this and building evidence about what is effective in supporting fairer higher education access, widening participation to higher education, and better learning in schools, using large-scale experimental and quasi-experimental research designs. Sonia has been a Governing Body Fellow at Hughes Hall since 2016, initially as a Research Fellow. In the Faculty of Education, she is Deputy Director of Research and a member of the Doctoral Leadership Team with responsibilities for doctoral admissions.
