Aisling received her undergraduate degree in Genetics from Trinity College Dublin and PhD from Dublin City University. She completed postdoctoral fellowships in the breast cancer field at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (with Professor Jason Carroll), partially funded by an IRCSET Inspire Marie Curie Mobility Fellowship. Following this, Aisling spent 2 years as a Principal Scientific Associate in Dr Duncan Odom’s lab at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, analysing non-coding regions of the genome. She then became Group Research Manager with Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald at the Early Cancer Institute, a role which comprised of laboratory management, clinical study management and project management. The Fitzgerald group focus on early detection of Oesophageal cancer and have pioneered the CytospongeTM technology. In October 2023, Aisling joined the MRC Epidemiology Unit as Project Management Lead and works closely with Principal Investigators and Research Support Team Leads to provide project management leadership and practical support for large scale, complex or strategically important Unit projects. Aisling completed a PRINCE2 Foundation Project Management course in 2018 and an Agile Project Management Practitioner course in 2023. Aisling joined Hughes Hall in 2013 and acted as Research Convenor from 2014 to 2016.
