President’s Retirement

To mark the retirement of Sarah Squire, Hughes Hall President for the past seven years, Hughes Hall has established a President’s Fund which will provide endowment support for scholarships and bursaries at Hughes.

Sarah has taken the College from strength to strength since she arrived in 2006, extending Hughes’ wide variety of valued connections in many parts of the world. During her time as President the student body has increased markedly to over 600, beyond middle size for a Cambridge College. Over 80 nationalities are represented among our alumni – a truly global community. In 2008, Sarah broke new ground for Hughes when she was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Great improvements have also been made in our estate and infrastructure. We have the splendid new Library, opened in 2009, and forming the academic heart of the College. Now our plans for a much needed new accommodation building in Gresham Road are reaching fruition. The friendly, egalitarian culture of College has continued to flourish through this period of change and expansion.

We invite you now to contribute to the Endowment Fund in Sarah’s honour, and help to provide support for new generations of Hughes Hall students in the years ahead.

Building this Fund is particularly important at Hughes Hall, which does not benefit from the ancient endowment enjoyed by many Cambridge colleges. All donations will be attributed to the President’s Fund and will form a discrete part of the Scholarships and Bursaries and Endowment. All donors to the Fund will be publicly acknowledged on the College website and in a forthcoming brochure.

US donors can also donate via Cambridge in America for maximum tax efficiency.
