On Tuesday October 20th, Quondam Fellow and former Hughes Hall Director of Music Peter Britton launched our Margaret Wileman Series with an excellent talk on the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen. The evening appealed to aficionados and sceptics alike.
Peter complemented his accessible analysis of Stockhausen’s music with anecdotes from years of performance with the composer whose works he continues to champion. Recorded examples were alternated with insightful video footage of the composer speaking especially about his time in Japan. Well-thumbed scores and a musical box also featured. Thanks are due especially to Agnieszka Iwasiewicz-Wabnig for the excellent technical support.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and left with a new appreciation of this important but controversial composer.
The next event in the series is a recital on the 20th of November. We look forward to it.
