Jack Merritt 2023 Memorial Rugby Match

On Saturday 1st April 2023 the Jack Merritt Memorial Rugby Match will take place at Grange Road – all welcome.

Jack Merritt was a Hughes Hall graduate who tragically lost his life in a terror attack in London in 2019, along with fellow Cambridge graduate Saskia Jones. He is remembered with great fondness at Hughes Hall and through a scholarship provided in his memory.

Jack was an exceptional person on and off the rugby pitch with the ability to connect with all those who met him. He tragically passed away at Fishmongers’ Hall where he was working to tackle injustice within prisoner rehabilitation. A dear friend and teammate to the All Greys, the rugby club for Hughes Hall, Wolfson, Darwin, St Edmunds and Clare Hall, he is sorely missed. In his memory, the team are honoured to organise this event annually, to celebrate Jack’s life through the sport that brought them together.

The event raises money for Just for Kids Law which exists to help children and young people overcome all the difficulties they face, from problems at school and issues with immigration status to trouble with the police. The All Greys RUFC welcome everyone to the match which takes place on the main pitch at Grange Road, from 2.00pm. Tickets are £5 and can be booked here: www.eventbrite.ie/e/jack-merritt-memorial-match-tickets-535823672027.

In Jack’s memory, the All Greys RUFC are honoured to celebrate Jack’s life through the sport that brought them together.

The Hughes Hall/Institute of Criminology Jack Merritt Scholarship is provided in Jack’s memory to a student from a Widening Participation background and is selected in conjunction with the Institute of Criminology.
