Hughes Hall Students Victorious in Boat Race!

Today’s Boat Race saw the Cambridge University Men’s Blue boat, whose crew included three Hughes Hall students, beat Oxford for the first time since 2012.

The Cambridge Women’s Blue boat, coxed by Hughes Hall’s Rosemary Ostfeld, lost out to the Oxford women after battling through difficult conditions. And Goldie, the Cambridge Men’s reserve boat, which also included three Hughes Hall members in its crew, came close to catching a strong Oxford reserve, finishing just 2 lengths behind.

The College has a distinguished tradition of rowing at all levels, and we are proud to congratulate the Hughes Hall students who took part in this year’s races: Henry Hoffstot, Ben Ruble, and Lance Tredell in the Men’s Blue boat; Rosemary Ostfeld in the Women’s Blue; and Vincent Bertram, Alister Taylor, and Joe Carroll in Goldie.

In recent years, Hughes Hall has contributed a number of outstanding rowers to the Cambridge boats. Henry Hoffstot has now crewed the Cambridge Blue boat for three years in a row (2014, 2015, and 2016) and is the current Cambridge University Boat Club President, and Ben Ruble and Rosemary Ostfeld were each making their second appearances for the Cambridge Blues in 2016.
