Hughes Hall BA Law Alumnus Jian Wei Aw receives Distinction Award in 2016 Singapore Bar Examinations

Hughes Hall BA Law Alumnus, Jian Wei Aw (BA Law, 2015), has received the Distinction award in the recent 2016 Singapore Bar Examinations for outstanding performance in the subject of Family Law Practice. The award recognises the top performers in the Bar Examinations, and is awarded only to a select handful of candidates who have demonstrated exceptional talent in the respective subjects tested in the Bar Examinations.

The 2016 Singapore Bar Examinations was taken by around 700 candidates, many of whom hold bachelor’s and postgraduate Law degrees from the Oxbridge and Ivy League universities, and is the mandatory examination for all persons seeking to practise as a lawyer in Singapore. In particular, the examinations for Family Law Practice tested competencies in the theoretical and practical aspects of advising and handling a complex cross-border family dispute, and involved the preparation of key legal documents.

Jian Wei’s achievement places him as one of the very top Law students of his generation in the Singapore legal community. Given that Family Law was the only subject taken by Jian Wei in the Singapore Bar Examinations which he had also previously studied while he was in Cambridge, his achievement attests to the enduring strength of the excellent legal education which he received in Cambridge and, most especially, Hughes Hall.
