Over the last 3 weeks, and spilt over two showcases, our newly recruited Research Fellows (RFs) and Research Associates (RAs) presented their exciting cutting edge work through short 10 minute presentations.
The membership of Hughes Hall represents an extraordinary breadth and depth of interests and this term’s showcases certainly gave College members and guests from the wider University a real sense of this. The audience were delighted to hear about quantum computing, how habits become complusions, improved cancer detection and treatment, using wearable technologies to hack diabetes and how bilinguals comprehend in their first and second language. The two-part showcase series ended with a ‘bang’ last week with a talk about volcanic eruptions in the Stone Age.
Vice President of Hughes Hall Jim Kaufman commented: “These talks were just what I needed after a long working day: short, punchy and fun, completely accessible, and full of ideas that I had never even heard of, leading in lots of different directions. I recommend these Research Showcases with enthusiasm.”
The showcases offered an excellent opportunity to find out more about what the College RFs and RAs are up to. They will be continuing in Michaelmas Term.
