About Pina Napolitano
Italian pianist Pina Napolitano performs regularly in Italy and abroad, and her music has been broadcast live by Rai Radio3 and BBC Radio3. She is especially known for her performances of modern and contemporary repertoire, with an emphasis on the Second Viennese School. Her first disc dedicated to Schoenberg complete piano works made a splash in early 2012, receiving five stars from Calum MacDonald in BBC Music Magazine for the “rare penetration, understanding, grace and elegance”. She has recorded the Schönberg’s piano concerto alongside Bartók’s third with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, directed by Atvars Lakstigala. Her third disc, “Brahms the Progressive”, is dedicated to late Brahms works combined with Berg and Webern. All discs are recorded with Odradek Records.
Pina Napolitano studied piano with Giusy Ambrifi, and with Bruno Mezzena, himself a pupil of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and serves currently as piano Professor at the Conservatory of Torrefranca, Vibo Valentia, Italy. She holds degrees in Classical Philology, in Slavic Studies, and a doctorate in Russian literature for her work on the poet Osip Mandel’štam, and is also a prizewinning translator, author, and regularly sought-after lecturer.
