New students’ signpost

We are here to support you

This page provides updates for our new students and should be read in conjunction with our other information pages, particularly Life at Hughes.

Our student centre pages, especially the section on preparation and arrival, provide practical information about coming to Hughes Hall and the start of the academic year.

Admissions announcements and updates

We are aware that the current global situation is a cause of concern for many applicants. The uncertainty we face is a challenge for students, teachers, and administrators in universities around the world, and at Hughes Hall we are responding to this with our colleagues across the University of Cambridge. We continue to monitor the situation around the world so that we are ready to adapt as necessary.

Please see the College’s COVID information pages and the University’s guidance for all students.

  • All students arriving from outside the UK should check the UK Government border controls information. If you are travelling from a country that the UK Government requires to self-isolate on arrival, you will need to arrange to arrive early enough to complete this before Registration.
  • The University’s Travelling to the UK page is another useful source of up to date information.
  • Applicants for postgraduate study should check the Postgraduate Admissions Office coronavirus advice, applicants for undergraduate study should check the undergraduate coronavirus advice.

If you cannot find the answer to your query on the website, please email admissions@hughes.cam.ac.uk.

Accommodation announcements and updates

The process for allocating Hughes Hall student accommodation for new students arriving in 2021-22 is presently open. As applicants return their Acceptance Reply Form they will be contacted with information about submitting their accommodation preferences, there is normally a 14 days processing time between submitting the ARF and receiving notification about accommodation.

  • Applicants who may have accommodation needs related to disability should contact the Disability Equality Officer as early as possible equality.officer@cam.ac.uk.
