The College’s Law students are amongst the most active and successful in the University – and graduates of Hughes Hall can be found in major legal firms, practices, and judiciaries worldwide. The College holds its own mooting competitions, and college teams participate in University and International moot competitions.
Governing Body Fellows in the legal domain include Ms Mahnaz Malik, international arbitrator and barrister, corporate lawyer, Mr William Charnley, Dr Markus Gehring, Expert in the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS) and a Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, Dr Jeffrey Skopek, University Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences, Dr Martin Steinfeld, Charnley Fellow in Law and Affiliated Lecturer in EU law at the Faculty of Law, and Dr Lars Vinx, University Lecturer in Jurisprudence.
The College’s Honorary Fellows include Lord Philips of Worth Matravers, one of Britain’s most senior judges, the Rt Hon Dame Janet Smith, a former Judge of the High Court and Court of Appeal, and Judge Evan Wallach, a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

In addition to the College mooting competition, the Law Group in College has a programme of ‘fireside chats’ with academics and practitioners in the field, and holds the annual Charnley Law Dinner.
