Last week, Terry Eagleton was at Hughes Hall to present his lecture on Trevor Griffith’s 1975 play ‘The Comedians’, as part of our Northern Literature and Culture Series.
A great turn out of Hughesians, members from the University’s Colleges, Departments and Faculties, Anglia Ruskin University students and the general public attended the event to hear the quirky, engaging and in-depth review of the famous play. Professor Eagleton took the audience on a journey, explaining the storyline and pointing out themes of the play, that some may have missed. He even read a passage from the play in a very admirable northern accent, to the delight of the audience.
Hughes Hall was delighted to welcome one of our greatest public intellectuals and we are now looking forward to the next event in the series.
