A tribute to Dan Vickerman, notable alumnus and rugby great who has passed away aged 37

Hughes Hall is saddened to learn of the death of notable alumnus and rugby great Dan Vickerman (BA 2008, Land Economy). He passed away in Sydney where he had been working following his retirement from rugby in 2012. Dan captained Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC) in 2008 and 2009 and made 63 test appearances for Australia.

President Anthony Freeling commented: ‘We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with Dan’s family and friends at this time. Dan was very well liked in College.  He was absolutely committed to his studies in Land Economy, hugely disciplined and a regular resident in the library.  He is an outstanding role model for those who wish to  combine academic endeavour with high sporting achievement’.

The Land Economy Class of 2008 commented: “As a small year group, many of us had the pleasure of working with Dan in tutorials or during group work, benefitting from his thoughtfulness, humour and leadership no doubt drawn from his time on the rugby pitch and gracefully brought into our department in Mill Lane. He shall be missed, and his fellow Land Economists of ’08 send their thoughts and condolences to his family”.
