The Look of Tudor Music (event cancelled)

This event has been cancelled.

We are delighted to be joining up with The Friends of Cambridge Early Music for our second joint event.

Byrd – Tallis – Taverner: we all know the sound of their works, and sound is of course the essence of all music. But in order to exist and survive, polyphonic works need to be written down; so what did Tudor music look like when Byrd, Tallis and Taverner were alive? Could their music be bought, and if not, how did performers obtain it? Did the look of these copies differ significantly from the scores that musicians use today? In this illustrated talk, musicologist John Milsom guides us through the shadowy world of the Tudor music book.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free event, but please ensure you book.

Please contact friends@cambridgeearlymusic.org or telephone 01223411762 to reserve a place.
